Testimonals

PRODUCERS/EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS:

I have had the privilege of working with Phil Jennings on many occasions over almost ten years.

Phil has great skills as a director and  has turned out some amazing concerts and events as a valued member of our BBC production team not least of all ‘Van Morrison: Up On Cyprus Avenue’ for BBC NI and BBC4 (in my opinion one of the most significant live captures of Van in years). This was a production that could not be left to chance and Phil did not let us down!

He is a true creative and an ultimate professional who cares greatly about his work and invests heavily in each and every production he is part of. I have found Phil to be calm and giving within the work environment, and quite honestly one of the most personable people I have worked with within a busy gallery environment. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Phil for any production.

Quite simply he is a gifted, hard-working and very likeable person, and sometimes all three of these traits can be hard to find.

Mike Edgar - Head of Entertainment and Events, BBC Northern Ireland

Phil Jennings did a really incredible job on a recent Laura Mvula BBC 6 Music live performance for us at Silver Bullet. From fantastic pre-production planning, to briefing the team really well beforehand and on site, and finally delivering a superb end product.  Start to finish it was top drawer and we look forward to the next production with Phil.

Andy Wood - Co-Owner, Silver Bullet Productions

I recently worked with Phil on a large BBC St Patrick's Night Concert at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.  The show had multiple acts and Phil did an amazing job throughout - I was completely delighted with the results which attracted fantastic feedback from many quarters. Phil was incredibly dedicated from the start to the end of the project - I knew he was giving it his all and he brought a lot to the table. He is also very good to work with on a personal level with a very positive attitude which permeates throughout the crew he is directing.

Feargal O'Kane - Producer, BBC NI

Phil - I sincerely loved every single second working with you. You were a brilliant director and I would love to work with you again.

Sara Bordo – CEO & Co-Founder, NowLive (USA)

Phil Jennings always delivers a fantastic and creative live output with a calm and friendly attitude. He brings a wealth of broadcast experience in to our live events. He really loves and cares about what he does for a living. We have produced some stunning shows together - we really can’t do it without you, mate.

Nick Dew - Co-Owner, Really Creative Media

Thanks for being a great director, Phil...

Rob Lane - Owner, Fast Lane Entertainment

I thought you were brilliant from start to finish under new and challenging circumstances.

Andrew Rawson - Producer, Plan B - Live at the Globe Theatre, London

Phil Jennings is an excellent director. I've been producing the Teenage Cancer Trust series at the Royal Albert Hall for the last 10 years. We work with very limited production budgets which means we always push our directors to deliver for the charity. Phil is an absolute pleasure to work with and his results speak for themselves.

Des Murphy - Producer, Teenage Cancer Trust, The Royal Albert Hall

Phil - as always it was an absolute pleasure to watch you work. The results speak for themselves. It was magnificent and your style and approach really suited the production. We have had endless positive feedback about the pictures. All down to you and your vision.

Paul McClean - Producer, BBC NI

Midas Media hired Phil Jennings to Vision Mix and Direct an HD Outside Broadcast of a live music event in Glasgow, based on his excellent CV. We weren’t disappointed. Despite being thrown in at the deep end, and working with a crew he had never met, Phil handled the pressure and stress in a calm assured way.

He has a fantastic ‘can-do’ attitude. He is rock solid and dependable and he doesn’t flap under the stresses of a live situation. He has a way with people and managed to motivate and engage a varied crew to deliver an impeccable end product.

Phil is totally professional, and I would highly recommend his work.

Patricia Macleod – Producer, Midas Media

I have had the pleasure of working with Phil for many years on a wide range of music programming: as a vision mixer at festivals (inc Glastonbury) and live music outside broadcasts and as a director on flyaway operations such as the Electric proms (eg, Florence and the Machine) and performances at Maida Vale Studios for online.

He is a dedicated and highly professional member of the team and always gives 100% to his work.

Dawn Davis – BBC Producer

I have worked with Phil on a number of music projects where he has vision mixed and directed, notably at Download Festival, The Classic Rock Awards, iTunes Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival.

He is one of those people who is well organised, creative and brings commitment and enthusiasm to the team. Phil has a great feel for music and follows the narrative smoothly when covering the spoken word. He combines his creative talent with strong people skills.

Phil's a terrific person to have on a production, I highly recommend him as a respected colleague who I would be more than happy to work with in the future.

Mike Kaufman – Executive Producer, Kaufman Limited

Phil worked as Director and Vision Mixer on the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings (CHOGM) in Valletta, Malta - a 10 camera live OB which was broadcast around the world. The event was attended by over 50 government delegations and Her Majesty the Queen. Phil had just a few days to understand the show and learn the intricacies of the light and set changes. He was highly diligent in studying the rehearsals so that the live production was flawless. Phil has a pleasant style of directing and is more than capable of handling a variety of multi camera projects.

Tony Still - Director & Owner, AJS Events

I highly recommend Phil Jennings as a Director/Vision Mixer. My experience of working with him on studio based music programming, similar in style to Jools Holland, for the BBC in Scotland showed that he is highly skilled, vastly experienced, committed, motivated and enthusiastic. Phil was never short of ideas, worked tirelessly and gave his best to the productions.

I would have no hesitation in using Phil’s services in the future.

Kenny Stewart – MD, Moja Limited

Phil was a key player in the team working alongside myself in Minnesota, USA as location director for BBC's Planet Earth Live.  With a three times weekly live broadcast operating across USA, Africa and England, I needed someone who could operate under extreme pressure, be creative, work well with talent, drive a large OB crew, bring experience and quality to the team and always be up for a challenge. Phil did all this and more. He drove each show with ease and proved a calm influence, keeping high spirits across the team. This was a technically and logistically difficult series to pull off but with Phil’s attention to detail and years of experience directing live broadcasts and events, with the help of Phil the USA side of production ran extremely smoothly. I look forward to the next time I have the pleasure of working with Phil and would certainly  recommend his talent.

Stuart Derrick – BBC Producer: "Planet Earth Live"

“Phil delivered exactly what we were hoping for. He came with a positive attitude, full of creativity and ambition, and this showed itself in the quality of the OB which was beyond anything we'd done in previous years.”

Denise Mather – BBC Series Producer: "Crimewatch Roadshow"

It was an absolute pleasure working with Phil on Springwatch. His commitment to the cause could not be faulted, his choices under pressure were excellent, his creative input was telling, his support for an inexperienced live team was gratefully received… and his puffin impersonation (according to renowned wildlife soundman Chris Watson) was almost indistinguishable from the real thing. I would have no hesitation in working with Phil again and can heartily recommend him.

Bill Markham - BBC Producer: "Springwatch"

I worked with Phil Jennings in his capacity as live director for the ‘Springwatch’ Outside Broadcast.

Phil was a pleasure to work with – hard-working, adaptable, creative and full of ideas. Skomer Island was a logistically extremely challenging location. Phil was obliged to direct the live crew on the island from a truck on the mainland but he managed to co-ordinate the sync and wildlife elements of the programme seamlessly. Despite not having worked extensively with wildlife before, he quickly got to grips with the challenges of the genre and his creative contribution greatly helped to elevate the quality of the output.

Dan Rees – BBC Producer: "Springwatch"

Phil Jennings worked as the live director for the Springwatch Adventure Team during Springwatch 2011. Phil slotted into the team very quickly and worked hard to understand a new genre to him, which he did with ease. He delivered a fresh approach to the content and guided an inexperienced live team with confidence. He was always happy to work closely with me as the producer, or take the lead if the situation demanded it.

I would be happy to recommend Phil Jennings as a live director.

Richard Taylor-Jones – BBC Producer/Presenter: "Springwatch"

PRESENTERS:

Live television, especially on remote OB's, is one the most challenging aspects of broadcasting and to have a calm, professional and ‘in-control’ director at the helm is essential to coming out the other side unscathed. Phil is one of a rare breed of directors that makes you feel you’re in safe hands no matter what happens.

Liz Bonin – BBC Presenter: "Springwatch"

Phil is always a reassuring voice in your ear whatever the madness around. He managed to maintain a sense of order in the wilds of Minnesota despite the presence of black bears & forest fires, for weeks on end!

Julia Bradbury – BBC Presenter: "Planet Earth Live"

I have worked with Phil Jennings on several occasions whilst filming live for Springwatch and found him to be a presenter's dream. Cool and calm under pressure, Phil's experience proved invaluable during filming. His instructions were always precise and clear and I would jump at the opportunity to work with him again.

Iolo Williams – BBC Presenter: "Springwatch"

Phil was the first live director and vision mixer I worked with when presenting Springwatch in 2011. I was terrified presenting live tv but Phil was my rock; he was easy to work with, didn't get stressed and kept me grounded and reassured throughout. For a novice like me, working with someone with such knowledge and understanding made it not only easier but a learning experience.

Charlie Hamilton-James – BBC Presenter: "Springwatch"

I have known Phil for over 10 years and without doubt he is a very skilled and supportive director. He is creative & conscientious... always determined to create the most polished and slick show possible. It's a pleasure to know him and to have worked alongside

him.

Naomi Wilkinson – BBC Presenter

I worked with Phil on BBC's Crimewatch Roadshow. Despite the intense nature of the job (very early starts and long hours) Phil was always able to keep up morale. As well as being a true professional he is also very creative and was always looking for new and interesting ways to deliver a shot. Phil is a team player. He is always happy to listen to new ideas from team members and makes sure he is across everybody's role. Phil is a great director to work with and I look forward to hopefully doing so again in the future.

Michelle Ackerley : – BBC Presenter: "Crimewatch Roadshow"

Phil's vision for this production and attention to detail put me completely at ease with my role as presenter on the St Patrick's Night

Concert 2018. He really understands live music events and captured this occasion perfectly.
